***** One of the better ultra-lounge disks, 2008-08-26
Plus it has bongos! What's not to like? It's an ideal disk for background music (with dance possibilities) while you serve up Tiki drinks to your friends on the bamboo-trimmed back patio. Let me recommend the following drink: br / br /Zoom-zoom Zoomette br /2oz Light Jamaican Rum br /2oz Dark Jamaican Rum br /1oz 151 proof rum br /2oz Grapefruit juice br /2oz Pineapple juice br /Dash of bitters br /Juice of one lime, squeezed br /Ice br /Mix into 20oz ("Venti") Starbucks cup and drink responsibly. br /

**** BONGOS, BABY, BONGOS, DIG?, 2008-05-03
I HAVE A LOT OF CD'S IN THE ULTRA LOUNGE SERIES. THEY ARE HIT OR MISS. SOME OF THEM ARE REALLY GREAT, AND SOME OF THEM ARE BEYOND CHEESEY. THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER ONES, THIS TIME FOCUSING ON (MOSTLY) BONGO AND PERCUSSION MUSIC RECORDED ON THE CAPITAL LABEL IN THE 50'S AND 60'S (AS ARE ALL THE RECORDINGS ON IN THE ULTRA LOUNGE SERIES). THE BEST CUTS ON THE CD ARE BY JACK COSTANZO, IF YOU LIKE THEM YOU SHOULD GET THE COMPLETE CD "LATIN FEVER' BY JACK COSTANZO, THAT ONE IS REALLY GREAT. MY FAVORITE CD IN THE ULTRA LOUNGE SERIES IS "THE CRIME SCENE", WITH "MAMBO FEVER" A DISTANT SECOND.

***** I love the Ultra-Lounge series., 2006-12-10
The sound quality of the Ultra-Lounge series is excellent, even though the songs were recorded mostly in the 50's and 60's. Capitol Records packs each CD with carefully chosen tracks consistent with the theme of the particular volume in the series. Many of the selections that appear here aren't available elsewhere, either because the original album on which the song appeared is out of print, or because the song was issued as a single and never collected in an album. A few 'previously unreleased' tracks also appear here. This series is a wonderful introduction to the music of a by-gone era, and each album includes detailed notes on each track (artist, writers, date recorded, how released, etc.). I heartily recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this type of music.

***** Beatniks and Bongos can't Be Beat, 2006-10-28
A number of these Ultra-lounges are decent, some are duds, and then there are those that are next to impossible not to love-this is one of those. 'Bongoland' is really one of the very best. It starts out a little slow, but it seems to almost get better with each selected piece. By #13's 'Misirlou' it's reached a high note. However, once #18 picks up 'Harlem Nocturne'(literally three minutes in), this thing is kicking. I like a lot of lounge from the late 50s-early 60s, bossa nova, some of the tiki stuff(Lyman's especially), and Mancini's, of course, but I just ADORE this album.
