Might'z Well Jump!, 2009-01-07
I received Jumper from Netflix when it first came out on DVD in the summer of 2008...but I never watched it; after it sat for a week or so I just returned it because I was never compelled to spend the 90 minutes watching a movie that got average at best reviews. br / br /Well I finally had the chance to watch it on HBO last night...and it was good! With a talented director like Doug Liman and the awesome David S. Goyer involved, I knew that Jumper would be good...I just knew it. br / br /The OC's Rachel Bilson adds to a very OC overall cast in Jumper. In fact, the whole movie had a very The O.C. kind of feel...broken up in large part by the ever-present Samuel L. Jackson. br / br /The concept of the film is simple...just how I like 'em: Some kid discovers that he can teleport, but finds out the hard way that there are people that would rather not have teleporters in their midst. A fun ride of cool action ensues. br / br /So Jumper wasn't great...it was good. Let's put it this way: I won't wait for cable for Jumper 2...scheduled for a 2011 release...2011!...sheesh that's a ways off...might'z well JUMP! br /

JUMPER ENDS UP A ...DUMPER! 2 1/4 STARS!, 2009-01-07
OK, OK, I know this is just another preposterous action sci-fi film, but for such an interesting premise to end up going nowhere, I have to say watch this on cable or maybe a cheap rental. The film is fast paced, but for a film that clocks in at under an hour and a half, it felt very long. This might have played better as a TV episode of some random sci-fi series. br / br /The film does say a lot about our society though as with such an amazing and powerful gift, all these lunkheads could think to do is rob banks and steal cars...etc! It's pure fantasy and that's OK by me, but make it a little more interesting next time. The film may appeal to some, but for anyone who wants a little more out of their sci-fi movies, this one's a dud! Even Lane and Jackson can't save this one! I rate it 2 1/4 stars!

There are always consequences, 2009-01-07
Any movie that emphasizes that there are consequences for your actions I believe is worth watching. The idea behind the movie is a little out there but all in all once you get past the "science fiction" you see real people just trying to do what is right - most of the time.

At Least Fun, 2009-01-07
This is a fun big budget special effects action movie. As far as a compelling story...well it has promised, but it is incomplete in many ways. There is a lot of story to tell. A kid whose mother long abandoned him and a father who drinks too much discovers he has this amazing ability to jump to places around the world. You have the girlfriend he wants along with a bully and it makes for an interesting story beginning. But the movie rockets past all that to get to the action. The action is good, as are the special effects. But with the Jumpers and the Paladins, I certainly would have liked a little more story or back round. This movie feels very much like a set up for further movies. I did enjoy it, I just wish things were fleshed out a bit more.

jumper is one those movies that you can look at forever. the way their abilities were utilized to how cool hayden christensen was this is great movie that anybody would love.
