    FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!, 2008-11-25
Customer Beware!!! as with many amazon products, the picture does NOT reflect what you will get in the mail!!! this does NOT come with a slipcover and does NOT come with the book!!! ONLY THE DVD!!! i was also charged $30 dollars, not 20!! when i complained, amazon sent a replacement of THE SAME THING (and did not adjust the price difference.) BEWARE. this is not the first time this has happened to me!! i have been overcharged for many things, sometimes by only one or a few dollars, and have been sent wrong or different items. the discriptions and pictures on this website are sometimes MISLEADING!!! also, the ordering and shipping departments do not communicate well with each other!!!!
br /watch your packing slips, your bank invoices and if you get screwed, resolve it with the company!!! the people responsible need to be made accountable!!! -and, standards and practices need to be upheld!! i am not saying do not shop at amazon- just be aware so you don't get screwed over like i have. amazon still has a wonderful selection and almost unbeatable prices. but, it is the customer's responisibility to hold businesses accountable for false advertising and bad standards and practices.
br /-on a side note, this is a wonderful movie.

As Twisted As Can Be, 2008-09-23
I think this is a lush, mystical film with disturbing undertones and a twisted layout. I think Jim Carey is great, the soundtrack sets the tone of the film and the cinematography, costumes and make-up are well-done. I am a big fan of Disney productions, however. I feel this film could learn a few things from Disney, as it was lacking in areas that could have been done better. The child actors were all very good, however the script was written in such a way that did not allow them to really connect with the viewer or one another. The storyline was warped and taken out of context from the books. That was disappointing. This is supposed to be a film for kids, but came across as being more of a film for teenagers and teenage angst. I hope that, if there are future productions of Lemony Snicket, the directors will allow the personalities of the children to come to the forefront. Let them become characters the audience can care about.

br /One of the reasons this film did not do as well as it could have (and the same with Nannie McPhee) is due to the editing and the director's decisions to cut back on the run time of the film. I feel this is a mistake. If a film is 20 minutes longer by doing an effective job of connecting the viewers to the actors, we might be interested enough to see the movie more than just once. Directors sink thousands of dollars into making films like this. So, it would be nice if they take into consideration, the film could become a classic with a little more care to detail. That's what kids love, and kids grow up into adults like me. (Someone who saw Star Wars close to 10 times the first year it was out...)
