***** If you missed it the first time., 2008-08-29
I would watch the Ellen show every now and then when it was originally aired but never really noticed how good of a show it was. I recently borrowed the first season and found it to be very funny and the second season was even better. When they expanded on the characters and made them more part of the show it gave you even more of what you wanted. At times you can sense the familiar flavour of Seinfeld since Tom Cherones was involved in both shows, but it is Ellen's style of humor and personality which really stand out. If you missed Ellen the first time around I would very much recommend you give it a try. After all, how much "reality tv" and night time game shows do we really need to see.

* WARNING to, my deaf and hard of hearing friends, 2007-01-08
Be aware that AE, showing great ignorance, has stripped the Closed Captioning from this series (in fact they did this to most of thier DVD releases-- From The Saprano's to Monty Python). How thoughtless, stupid, or cheap, can they be?

The show really gets better in later seasons, when Jeremy Piven joins the cast. br / br /Also, they must have gotten a cheap stylist for this season : the outfits and sets are atrocious.

***** FUNNY, 2005-10-09
This show is one of the best from the mid 90's. I have the first season also, but it is nothing compared to the second season. THis has some really funny episodes. The ballet one, the one where Ellen and her parents commit to honesty in their relationship, the one with the dentist (Dentist goes "Oh Ellen, your from the old Bayou"....Ellen's reply on laughing gas "May I bayou a drink....") hilarious. The only complaint I have now, as well as then is that the supporting cast, IMHO sucked. Adam was NOT funny...Joe the coffee guy is really not likable at all, he borders on annyoing..and Paige.. well she is alright no complaints there. Audrey and Ellen's parents were much better and are always good for a laugh or two..most of the time more than that. When Ellen got rid of Adam and brought on Jeremy Piven as her cousin..thats when the show got even better. Can I say I cannot wait for season 3? And then the Coming Out episode? Cannot wait! Bring It ON!
