br /A young boy, who is tired of his life as a small boy in New York, makes a wish at a carnival to be "big." The next morning, to his horror, he finds that his wish has come true. He then goes to work for a major toy manufacturing company, and because of his childlike innocence, soon rises to the top of the company. It's a delightful fantasy that explores what most likely every child has wished at some point, and goes into what might happen if that came true. Every scene is delightful in every way, and the film is full of comedic and light-hearted moments that make us love childhood and everything about it (Chopsticks). There are plenty of scenes in this film that became instant classics, and it all culminates into a truly touching final scene. The screenplay is brief and charming and full of wit. There's plenty of lovely little bits of dialogue and a hilarious scene in the toy shop. It's a light-hearted, fantastical drama that will entertain kids, charm adults and keep its audience interested until the end. The characters are all appealing and likeable, and Tom Hanks is indispensible as the Big Kid of the title. It's a brilliant and original story concept that works brilliantly on the screen. Anyone would be a fool not to like it.
