Editorial Review from Product Description:
Children in foster care and adopted children often suffer painful separations from their families for reasons that they may not understand. They are often very confused, angry, and sad. This comforting story describes what happens to Zachary the kitten who is taken from his home when his mother is no longer able to care for him. Children will follow Zachary as he first enters foster care and is subsequently adopted by a loving family of geese. Zachary's story will help foster and adopted children -- and the adults who care for them -- cope with their many losses and feel both happier about their present and more optimistic about their future.

Very helfpul for kids adopted from foster care, 2008-02-19
There are so few children's books for kids adopted past infancy! This is a good one for children adopted at older ages, who were removed from their birth families. I agree with another reviewer that having the illustrations in color would have been a better choice.

br /Another children's book that deals with these issues is Families Change: A Book for Children Experiencing Termination of Parental Rights (Kids Are Important Series). It is not a fictional story, but explains different ways that families change (including having new foster or adoptive parents, etc.).

br /My daughter asked to hear Zachary's New Home several times. In fact, I had to buy a second copy after misplacing the first one, because she kept asking for it. I 'edited out' the part about Zachary running away from his adoptive parents. Basically this book is a very useful resource for families who have adopted from foster care.
